Summer Getaway 2017

cache/wst.opf.4819827.xml

Chapter members gathered at the Tal-Wi-Wi Lodge in Alpine AZ June 21-23 for our annual Summer Getaway.  This is a great opportunity to escape the triple digit valley heat, enjoy the cool ponderosa pine forests (8000' MSL), and do some shooting. Members enjoyed the culinary skills of the new Executive Chef at the Tal-Wi-Wi Lodge (who is also quite an wildlife artist). We also had our annual "weapons familiarization" at our improvised range.  Fortunately, heavy rains in the past few weeks had minimized the fire danger and fire restrictions had been lifted in time for us to shoot.

Walter Bruce Foote Memorial

Chapter members traveled to Safford Arizona Memorial Day Weekend to render honors to our Chapter Namesake, SGT Walter Bruce Foote, the first Special Forces soldier from Arizona killed in Vietnam. The local American Legion Post provided the Color Guard, Firing Party, and Bugler for the ceremony.  After the ceremony, members moved to the American Legion Post for lunch provided by the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Spring Fling 2017

Chapter XXII changed venues for this year's Spring Fling, moving the event to historic Fort Verde, located in Verde Valley. The site was an Army Fort in the 1800's, and several structures are still standing. The museum tells the history of the fort, the units that were stationed there, the Indian Scouts, and their "relationship" to modern Green Berets. The weather was perfect, it was a great location with several other attractions in the area, and members agreed we would probably return next year. Several members of the Chapter elected to stay in the area after the Spring Fling to enjoy local attractions, to include the Out Of Africa Wildlife Park. Nobody did the ziplining over the big cats, but there's always next year....

House of Seven Arches - Sedona

The Ladies Auxiliary  (Becky Durocher) arranged a luncheon visit to the House of Seven Arches in Sedona, Saturday, 25 March.  The house is owned by Fred Shenn and Terrie Frankel.  The house was originally owned by Lucille Ball. Terrie and her late sister Jennie were the  "Doublemint Twins" and did USO tours in Vietnam with Joey Bishop.  The house is wall-to-wall memorabilia from their careers in entertainment.  Terrie and Fred were great and gracious hosts and everyone enjoyed the day.

Christmas Dinner - 2016

Chapter XXII gathered at the Wild Horse Pass Resort/Casino for our Christmas Dinner.  Wild Horse Pass provided a great buffet dinner, and we had a large number of raffle prizes, to include an engraved Glock 19. A great evening of Camaraderie.  Congratulations to Al Forster for being recognized as Chapter Member of the Year, and Marc Malin, winner of the Glock 19 (and a few other items).

Members gathered at the Tal-Wi-Wi Lodge for our annual summer getaway, escaping the triple digit weather in the valley for the cool climate of the White Mountains.  Good food, great camaraderie, and a nice day at our improvised range conducting our annual weapons "familiarization".

Chapter XXII assembled in Safford for our annual Memorial Day ceremony honoring our chapter namesake, SGT Walter Bruce Foote.  We had one of our biggest turn-outs of members in several years.  American Legion Post 32 provided the Color Guard, Firing party and Bugler, and as always, did an outstanding job.  After the ceremony, members moved to American Legion Post 32 where the Post 32 Ladies Auxiliary provided lunch for all.  Chapter XXII President Dan Durocher presented both the Honor Guard and the Ladies Auxiliary with plaques in appreciation for their tremendous support.
