Chapter Officers for 2018-2019

TAPSMalcolm “Mick” Howard (M-12907) passed away 30 October 2018. Mick had been battling a series of medical issues related to Agent Orange exposure.  He was a commo sergeant with 5th Group in Vietnam. Mick later went on to become a Warrant Officer (Communications) and worked in the White House Communications Section under President George H.W. Bush. He attained his PhD in communications, and in his later years, oversaw the conversion of Fort Huachuca to Fiber Optic.  Update: He will be interred in Sierra Vista Memorial Cemetery Friday, 8 March at 1200 hours. There will be a "casual" Celebration of Life after the ceremony. He is survived by his wife Barbara.


TAPS - Chapter XXII lost another longtime member, Carman "Rusty" Todd. If we get any details we will get them out to the Chapter.




Calendar of Events 2019


13-14 Apr - Spring Fling, Camp Verde.  (Second day is optional.)  NEW LOCATION!  President Dan DuRocher emailed maps to the picnic location (gazebo in front of "old" high school, about a block from Camp Verde State Park). Chapter provides hamburgers. hot dogs, buns, chips, and beverages.  Ladies Auxiliary provides side dishes and desserts. On Sunday, interested Chapter members and wives can take the Verde Valley Canyon Railroad trip.  Last year we had our own rail car and observation car for a scenic tour of the Verde Canyon. Check out photos on photos page from last year's trip.  Buffet is included, and the car has a cash bar. Space is limited, so sign up early!

Apr - May
(dates/times/locations TBP) - Presentation of SFA JROTC Award to deserving Cadets at various high schools in the valley.  Awards will be delivered to schools ahead of ceremonies, this is a "grip and grin" presentation to the Cadets. Award Ceremonies will be added/listed below as we get the information. We are asking for volunteers to attend the ceremonies and present the award. Great opportunity to meet and recognize some outstanding Cadets.

25 May - SGT Walter Bruce Foote Memorial Ceremony, Safford.  Ceremony begins at 1000 hours.  Members traditionally assemble at Jerry's Restaurant for breakfast between 0800-0830 prior to the ceremony.We will move to the cemetery by 0930 to begin set-up/preparation.  After the ceremony, the local Legion Post Ladies Auxiliary hosts a luncheon for participants.

22 Jun - Prescott VA Community Living Center (CLC) Pizza Luncheon. Members assemble at the Prescott VA at 1130 hours.  Chapter provides pizza/soda for the CLC residents,  After the CLC luncheon, members move to President Dan DuRocher's house for a BBQ and informal meeting.

19-21 Jul - Summer Getaway, Fort Tuthill (just south of Flagstaff). Details will be published as plans are firmed up and venues confirmed.

14 Sep - Business Meeting, Scottsdale VFW.  This is our big meeting of the year.  This year we will be nominating/electing new Chapter Officers.

16 Oct - Phoenix VA Community Living Center (CLC) Pizza Luncheon.  Chapter will provide and serve pizza and sodas to residents of the Phoenix VA CLC.  Meet at the VA CLC (just north of Indian School Road on west side of 7th Street) at 1130 hours.

9 Nov - Vet Day Picnic, Red Mountain Park, Mesa.  Chapter provides hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, chips, sodas and beer (cans only, NO GLASS permitted).  Ladies Auxiliary provides side dishes and desserts.  Bring the family, great venue for kids.  We also extend an invitation to Rangers and other Special Operations/Airborne veterans.

14 Dec - Christmas Party, Briarwood Country Club, Sun City West.  Always a great event, good food (buffet) and LOTS of raffle items.
